Default BIG FOOT OF THE RAZOR WORLD

I have just shaved with this semi-wedge razor and it is sweet. I call it Big Foot because as you can see when laid next to my old trusty 5/8 Wilhelm Weber, this Braun Corp 6/8 takes size and heft to new heights. The actual cutting edge is 4 inch from stablizer to toe while the blade from toe to tail is 6 3/4. Thank goodness that the tang to tail are a normal 2 3/4", about the same as the Hamberg model next to it so I don't have to put on my bear paws to handle it. Including the modestly shaped ebony scales the weigh is 74 grams as opposed to 40 grams of my regular user, a noteworthy weight.

Has any one ever heard of Braun Corporation as a straight razor maker? Is this razor made for a "big face", like the size of a horse? Alx

What's the length of the cutting edge. I have no info on the maker, but I had one similar looking razor by, I think "Boland Liege" that was quite long. Also, many older razors (particularly Greaves) tend to gave longer than normal cutting edges.

WOW! Now that is impressive. I may be way off base, but could it be that the giant razor is what is called a "tissue sampler", used for cross section of tissue from a larger organ? I have heard of them, but never saw one in person. Best, wildhog

Now that you mention it, the back does look like it may be flat ground.

Yes, as the previous posters have mentioned, that looks like a microtome of sorts to me.
I'm afraid I have no information about the maker.
Nice piece, thanks for posting it

Now that you mention it, although both sides are hollow ground, one is slightly less than the other. thanks, Alx

I'd guess that is a tissue sampler, or microtome as Wildhog and Birnando advise. But do not despair, for microtomes have in the past been honed and used as razors. I have seen several here, and IIRC Steve at the Invisible Edge recently sold one, professionally honed to shave readiness.

Let us know how it works, but careful with such a long edge!

That is awesome. I don't care if it is a maicrotome razor. Like Dylan said the greaves were a little longer and they are one of my favorites.
