    Default Help with a razor

Hello everyone. Today while waiting for my barber to return from lunch I visited a local antique store thinking they may have a vintage razor or two. Well they had one for $15 but it confused me. The razor itself was very small probably 3/8 or so maybe 4/8 tops, on the tang it said JA Heckels Wickerworks, on the box it said the same thing fallowed by China razor. The shoulder of the blade said 378 1/2. What makes me wonder is the fact that it looked fairly old, the box certainly was. I'm just wondering in any of you knew anything about it. I'd be very appreciative if you did.

    Hi Devilpup,

go by the tang, forget the box. A Henckles is a great razor, this one just sounds like it was well loved and honed many times. You KNOW it must be a good shaver, cuz whoever had it used it a lot. Not a bad thing, don't get me wrong. I would kill for a decent Henckles. the shoulder stamp probably means a run number and the blade size, i.i. #378 1/2" blade. So it probably started life as a 4/8". It's just been honed many times.

Get, clean it, have it honed and use it. THat's my advice!!

    Good luck mate!

p.s. I have family in Springfield, not that you would know them, I just had to mention it, heheheh.

Thank you gents. I think I'm make the huge investment and spend the $15 to just buy it and then post pics. And mjhammer I think you're right it did look like it had seen a hone a fair few times.

P.S. I currently live about 50 minutes southwest in a little town but am moving to Columbia MO for college in the fall.
