    Default Straight vs Shavette

Ok Gents my 2 penneth ragarding the shavette vs a straight or rather the results of both.
I had my first shave with a good quality straight (abram brooksbank ,sheffield 5/8)

compared to a shavette I found the abram a hell of lot smoother and way more forgiving.
dont get me wrong the shavette forced a steep learning curve, but now I cant see me going back....ever

"My name is Anthony and im a straight shaving addict".

time to work on my RAD

And thank for sharing your knowledge

    Hehe! Feel the RAD!

There is a big difference between a feather and a straight. I definitely prefer the straights!

I think what it really comes down to is steel quality. Any disposable blade is designed to be just that: disposable. So the maker isn't going to spend the money on the best possible steel. He's going to buy steel that'll get half a dozen decent shaves and then need replacing.

A straight can only be honed, not replaced so the makers invest in the best possible steel so the edge holds up and the razor lasts.

    Good steel = good edge.

Glad you're enjoying the good life!

oh man, no comparison. the shavettes are a starter razor, trying to get you into straights is all they are. Seriously, shavettes are great if your not really into shaving. Once you try a real straight, you get hooked. A shavette could not do that for me..

    Enjoy!!

Once you get use to a real straight razor and know how to keep it tuned, the shavette becomes cheap and crude. I started out with disposable straight razors while learning to straight shave and I enjoyed the process. Once you dial in on that perfect edge and perfect performance from a traditional straight razor, its hard to go back to the disposable straight razors.
