Default Won my first razors on eBay. Opinions?

I'm thinking I got lucky, but I'm not entirely sure. Won these two Genco straight razors on eBay today. One for a mere 10 bucks, and one for 16 bucks. I figure that even if they're crappy razors, I'll be able to mess around with them and practice polishing and honing them. Hoping they can be turned into decent shavers.

    From the pics:

The second one looks really good, very little wear showing at all.

The first one, looks to be hone weary, might be a good shaver regardless but has been well used

I agree with Glen on his assessment. Heaving hone ware on the first, thought it still might take a great edge.

Second one looks really good and probably only needs a MAAS polishing and honed and it will be a great shaver. Genco/Geneva's are some of my favorite american razors.

The Genco Grant looks a lot like my Robeson Sure Edge 6/8. The style of the scales and blade look similar. You got a good deal on that one and the first one would probably be good to practice honing on before trying it on a nicer razor.

+1 to what Glen said. When I was starting out I bought razors like the first (cheaper) one but after a couple of dozen of those I became more discriminating. I think that is probably the normal progression for many of us. The second one is nice. I like those scales with the reinforced ends and the blade looks good. Enjoy them.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I was going to bid on the grant too. My wife says I have too many razors already, so I have to hold out for the special ones now that I don't already have one of.. Sadness at my RAD being curtailed, Happiness someone here got it!!

I'm still trying to get up enough scratch for the bismark.!!

    Happy shaving!!
