    Default Barber's collection

    Hi,
I found this forum while doing some research into these razors. My aunt and uncle found out that I was shaving with a straight. Turns out my great uncle was a barber in the 1920s and 1930s. They gave me his collection of razors. There are about eight, including a King Edward half guinea and an Airedale, but these are my favourites.

This is a gong Magnetstahl. There are two of them, both still magnetized

This one is an Orplid, bit harder to see the blade.
And this is my daily shave at the mo. A Sheffield Steel Myerson, that just needed a strop to be ready to use.

They all appear to be in great shape, just need a little cleaning.
    Thanks for sharing.

Cheers both. That's the plan, probably one of the Magnetstahl razors to start with I think

I don't think it gets any better than to have vintage razors that were part of you own family history. Sweet!! Congrats and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Welcome to SRP. Nice set of family heirlooms you're putting to good use there. If they were mine I would go to a good hardware, pick up a tin or tube of Maas, Semichrome or the like and give the blades a rub with a paper towel then call it good. Lot of life left in those blades but unless there is sentimental value I don't think they are worth the cost of pro restoration. I may be wrong though. I was wrong once before. Enjoy your shaves.

Edit; BTW, 0000 steel wool with a bit of oil will take off that red rust without leaving scratches. Then the metal polish will help too. You won't get it all but a fair amount of it and you'll be left with some patina.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
