Thanked: 1And the collective knowledge of this forum comes through.
I was not aware that the factory thickness varied with the width of the blade.

I cut this tidbit of info from a previous post that I forgot to label properly, so I no longer have any clue who posted it. I am sorry about that. However, and without further ado: "throughout the history of making razors, most manufacturers adhered to the proportion of the blade about 3.5 times the thickness of the spine. So for example: 4/8th would be bit over 1/8th inch spine, 5/8th would be 3/16th inch spine, 6/8th razor would be a bit under 1/4 inch spine, 7/8th to 8/8th razor would be about 1/4 inch or more spine thickness."
So, the wider the blade, the thicker the steel. Like mentioned before, different manufacturers aim for different angles, but they seem to adhere to their chosen angle of attack no matter what blade size they make. Thus it seems the question of blade geometry is not so much an issue.

According to this:

the thickness of Scotch electrical tape is 0.2 mm = 0.008".

Thanked: 46Yeah, but it will change depending on how you stretch it. Give it a good pull and it becomes thin enough to almost see through. That's not counting variations in manufacture and handling, either. As an electrician, learning how to play with the thickness of tape is all part of the biz.
1/4" spine on an 8/8? Gotta get me one of those monsters to play with!
