Grandpa's old Gillette.
Hey guys! It's been a long time since I've been on the forum. I'm glad you're still here! So here's the deal. I was visiting my cousin and my aunt gave me a bag of my grandpa's old DE razors. One is a really nice gold plated (maybe?) Gillette. I soaked it in hot water and used some dish soap and a tooth brush and got it pretty clean. But I can't help but wonder what else I can do to restore this to it's prime. As far as the others. They are all adjustable. One Gillette I think and 2 schick. The schicks have a plastic handle and the Gillette is all metal. I've already done a hot water soaking and soapy toothbrush cleaning on these too. But how do I get them looking really nice? I'd like to get them restored and give them to the grandsons in the family so they can have a memory of grandpa even if they don't want to switch to wet shaving.

If it is gold plating windex is your best bet. Metal polish will remove the lacquer they put on the gold if it doesn't remove the plating itself. On the others I personally use Scrubbing Bubbles and a toothbrush. Q-tips to get into the nooks and crannies.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

The shower cleaners remove soap scum and with an old toothbrush
make a lot of progress.
Do not go too nuts on the plastic handles.
One or two sprays of the harsher "Mold and Mildew Remover with Bleach
cleans and disinfects" products can help sanitize but do not overdo with
the harsher stuff.
Any of the kitchen products for restoring a bright polish to
chrome may also help.
Start with as gentle a product as you have handy.
Much of the dullness can be simple soap scum or
hard water deposits.
Ultra sonic cleaners at a jeweler can also
clean off stuff and not damage the razor.
