Thanked: 1My first "fleabay" Razor... how'd I do?
Got "sniped" on the Kukri razor I wanted and while I was looking around, I found this one. A Klas Tornblom 157, that from the pics appears to be in G/VG condition.
It was shipped today, so hopefully I'll have it in hand later this week.
For now the ebay pics are all I have
VINTAGE MINT KLAS TORNBLOM Sweden Safety Razor in Box - eBay (item 350473807161 end time Jul-04-11 15:35:39 PDT)
From searching the forum, it appears Tornblom has a good reputation. So, how'd a noob do on his first ebay purchase?

Tornblom is a good brand. I have one or two and the shaves are good. As for a Noob buying from eBay, if you have the funds to take the chance of getting a lemon go for it. Even the guys that know what to look for get stung from time to time even if they don't admit it. I know I have. How well did you do on this particular purchase? You'll know when it arrives and you attempt to get it shave ready or send it out for a professional edge to be put on it. The only real way to know is to have it in hand. Hope it was a good score for you. Good luck.

In an instance like this, I always like to message the seller and let them know that I'm very interested, but have strong concerns about the opposite side of the razor, followed with "Can you provide me with more pictures." Due to lack to pictures, you're taking a relative gamble with the condition of the non-stamped side. Now, that being said, even with the seller's dollar-store camera, the stamped side seems to be in decent-enough condition. I can't tell if that's an uneven bevel at the toe-end, or just a glare. Looks a bit scratched-up, but hopefully all is well. Seems like a great round-point, though. Follow up the thread with some better pictures and let us know how it turns out!

I got a Törnblom in a Swedishbay auction, around same price, came shave ready though, different ground. Great shaver, lovely steel. Like Derek said, hopefully the edge is ok without chips and the reverse side is in good condition. If so, get it honed up, it'll undoubtedly be a great shaver. And for $30, if it turns out wrong it sucks, but at least you haven't wasted $180 on a warped-blade wade & butcher.

Thanked: 1Razor arrived today. It appears to have never been honed, the blade's tight in the scales and it looks like a brand new razor.
I've been working out in the heat most of the day, so I am going to sit here and cool off a little before I break out the camera. but I'll post pics on it in a little while.
