Pre-Civil War Razor, or older
I would love to be able to find a pre-Civil War or older straight to restore or just handle and shave with. Where do I need to be looking and what makers? I know that there were a lot of Swedish and German manufacturers producing some quarter-hollow stuff around 1850s, but past that, I'm not sure. I love learning about stuff like this. Thanks all!

There are a lot of pre civil war razors out there. They occasionally pop up in the classifieds here on SRP and often on ebay. If you are out beating the bushes in antique stores, flea markets and such they show up there from time to time too. Here is the "stub tailed shavers" razor club where you will find razors that go back to the late 1700s to early 1800s.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Awesome, thanks. I just put in a bid for a Blankety blank blank stubtail. I figure someone on here is bidding against me!

The best way to get a razor on ebay is tell the forum after you get it. Just IME.

Yeah, you're right. However, I figure this one will go for more than I want to spend right now anyway, so it might not matter. Regardless, I went back and edited the maker's name out.

Thanked: 94But the civil war happened in the 1640s? Why would you want stuff from 200 years later?

Nope, 1st and 2nd English Civil wars between Charles I (?) and the Roundheads. Ended with him losing his head at the end of the first war. Paved the way for English democracy and eventually our democracy rather than oligarchical rule.
Edit: something is screwy. The posts aren't updating correctly. There should be a post in here somewhere about Quakers slapping each other. That's what I was responding to.Last edited by medicevans; 07-07-2011 at 03:06 PM.

Thanked: 46It gave me a mental image of a World Championship Wrestling match with two bearded guys wearing braces and breeches squaring off and taunting each other with "thees" and "thous".
