Thanked: 6New eBay razor... anyone tell me anything about it?
It has got some engraving on it.. not sure if it will be salvaged or not in the restore process, but I sure hope so. I think Its a solid razor.. and will be a beauty once done, engraving or not.
I am also not sure approx how old this beauty is... anyone got any rules of thumb?
Pics below:
Regards,
Jeff

Thanked: 2591I do not know about the age, but as far as blade restore I think all it needs is a bit of hand polish with a polishing compound and it should be good to go. You have to fix the frown close to the heel too.

As I'm sure you know, it's a wade and butcher, and a beautiful one at that. I would just replace the scales, may a black horn or A dark wood. I wouldn't touch the blade as far as a restore or polish, the patina doesn't look bad, it gives some age but no rust or spots. Just need to fix the scales and hone it up. Beautiful blade, nice find!

I'm with Stefan on restoring the blade. It just needs to be buffed up a little. Be sparing with the metal polish as it will remove the black from the recess in the etching. I would put a very little metal polish on a soft rag and work it into rag so there isn't any that will work into the etching and then just lightly polish the blade. Repeat adding more metal polish into a clean part of the rag as needed. Slow, steady and neat will result in a job well done. Good luck.

Congratulations!
What a great find! I hope it restores well and the engraving stays dark and strong.
It should be beautiful when you finish cleaning and polishing it.
