Thanked: 0straight razor shop in Edinburgh
Hello
I am new here and wanted to start of with a simple question (I can´t seem to google the answer). Are there any shops in Edinburgh where you can purchase a quality straight razor?
It would be very kind to get a few shop mentioned.

Well I couldnt tell you what shops are near you. But if your having trouble looking for shops try to instead find a barber. If you can find a barber that does shaves chances are he will be able to connect you with someone in your area that sells, it may turn out that the barber himself has blades he wants to part with. Thats what happend to me.... and if all else fails there are great links all over this site to order fantastic razors.
Look luck on your hunt

Hey
I live in edinburgh as well, down in leith, and i can categorically tell you there ar no shops selling straight razors. apart from a place in cockburn street and those cost £25 pounds. Avoid.. however there are quite a few shops where you can get excellent shave creams and soaps, alos the independent chemists have cheap gems such as palmolive and ingrams cream, which to be honest i would recommend any newb start with.
Also, as mentioned above Strop-shop.co.uk and theinvisibleedge.co.uk, run by neil and steve respectively. Both are amazing guys to deal with and so helpful it's not funny.
Steve has a straight razor starter kit with everything you need to get going, and he also has a bunch of NOS sheffield razors in which are the same price as his beginners razor (made by dovo for him). I think he's happy to switch out items of same value so he might let you swap his own brand razor for the sheffield one (look in vintage shave ready razors). then go down to superdrug and get a tube of palmolive classic.

Unless there's a member nearby (try a PM) your best bet would be one of the two links mentioned above, both of whom offer a sharpening service.

Thanks, that's where I got my gear from but the Dovo I think was not a great factory finish. Executive shaving guy advised me of a honing service from a guy in Durham. My problem is I'm going away soon as I work oversees and dont think I'll have the time to send it away and get it back from honing by the 11th. I'm looking at trying a TI prehoned from new from the UK website. (already ordered a cheaper Dovo from them)

I can say Neil Miller is a Fine Gentleman and most knowledgable. I heartily recommend him.

Thanked: 10Then I suggest you get a paddle strop and paste. TI paste will keep the edge shave ready for a while.
