Default Old H Boker King Cutter

    Hey all,

I picked up an old King Cutter today and thought you all might get a kick out of the pictures. This razor really shows the endurance of straight razors.

From what I can tell, something happened to the razor at one point in time and instead of throwing it away, someone ground down what they could and put an edge back on it. It is really cool to see because the shape is so strange and also because the edge on the razor is still quite sharp!

To top it all off, it looks as if someone made their own scales out of scrap metal. I am hoping to clean it up and replace the scales but thought someone would appreciate the pictures before I tear it apart. I think this piece really highlights just how much life you can get out of a straight razor.

If that razor could sing it would be singing "Old Man River" yea it just keeps rolling along.

I'm probably just missing something, but that doesn't look re-ground to me, just improperly honed. The spine is badly worn toward the tip and that wear is reflected in the taper of the rest of the blade. It's not ruined -- I've seen lots worse. Subsequent honing will simply have to follow that wear pattern. There's no reason it can't shave very well, though.

I'd say about half an inch hehehe....

Nah, seriously, Bokers are great razors and on my short list of razors to hunt down. Although it can be shave ready, it may not be super comfy since the edge crosses through the belly of the razor.
