    Default John Barber Score!

Won this one on the 'bay last night. Anyone here bidding on it? I'm hoping it will shave well, I know JBs are well regarded. Looks to be about a half-hollow? What do you all think? I'm happy with the end price, $29 including shipping. I'm happy with that, so I don't care if it's "worth it" as it's worth it to me. I'm thinking somewhere around 1830 due to the tang, is that about right?

Nice razor and good that you are happy with your purchase. If you are going to use the razor you will need to repair or replace the scales due to the break at the pivot pin. Being at the pivot any repair may be just temporary. As for the blade, just some metal polish and a proper honing and you'll be all set. Of course you can go further if you like but it will not improve the shave. Good luck.

Oh, I intend to use it! I'm thinking horn for the scale replacement. If I could find a small piece of ivory, that would be a sweet wedge.....hmmmmmm.

Gool luck finding ivory. I have seen it from time to time at gun shows, but it will empty your wallet. Best, wildhog

Best source for ivory is on a trashed razor where it is not known by the seller that it is ivory.

Nice score on the Barber! I like the honey ox.

You know what would look great next to that rescaled Barber? Maybe a nice blackened patina Federick Celebrated...

I will tell you what, if I can get some of my DE razors sold, I may take that FR off your hands. Red linen micarta or G-10 would be good huh? Of course we could always work out a trade.......
