Default Old Wade & Butcher Needs Restoration

I came across this razor at an antique store and I was wondering if anyone knows how to date it or knows anything about it. I am also interested in restoring it. It has some chips in the blade but I think they should be able to be honed out. I would not be able to do this myself since I am a novice. How much do complete restorations typically cost (just a ballpark figure)? I am talking about blade and scales restoration. Is this razor even worth restoring in your opinion? Thank you for any help!

Because the word 'England' is not stamped on the tang, the razor likely dates to before 1891. It can be restored, and the chips can be honed away but considerable blade width will be lost in the process. You can inquire of various restorers in this forum what restoration will cost.

That is a fine razor you have there. Depending how much you got it at the antique shop i would get it restored! once restored it WILL LOOK LIKE A BRAND NEW BLADE!

Thank you sir! Actually my fiance (who knows nothing about straight razors) bought it for me because she knows I like them. She paid $20 for it. I think she got a good deal! I am going to have Ken Rup do a full restoration on it for me. I will follow up with pictures when it is done. I am looking forward to it, I have heard he does great work.

I actually live south of Houston in Pearland. I see that you go to UH too! I have been going there for the past 5 years. I finish up my degree in mechanical engineering this December. What are you going there for?

Very good price, I would have it restored or do it yourself. She deserves a second life!

Thank you! I actually just shipped it off to Ken Rupkalvis for a full restoration. I am excited to see what he can do with it!
