Thanked: 0What type of razor is this??
Hello. I am having trouble identifying this razor that I found among my fathers things. He passed away and left lots of old relics behind, but didn't tell me anything about them. I've searched all over to try and match this razor to identify it with no luck. Anyone know? Help appreciated!

Any pics of any makers marks? They'll really help folks ID the blade.

Thanked: 443The box says Wade & Butcher, as far as I can tell. Do you know if it's the original box?
Looks like it was a top-end blade in its day, with all that ivory. Shame about that chip in the toe, but that can be honed out with a little shape change to the blade.
Good luck finding out more. I hope you'll resurrect it to shaving condition."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

This may or may not be helpful but I've seen Shumates that look very similar to that one.

Thanked: 46Are there any markings on the front of the blade?

Unfortunate chip in the blade. Your scales are almost surely not ivory, but celluloid. If there is any info to be had it would on the reverse side of the razor as photographed. I have several similar to this and sometimes the manufacturer's stamp on the tang covering can be very light. So look closely and maybe you can make out some writing that may be a clue to its origin.

I have a Motley & Sons clover brand that looks similar but it seems to have been a hot style.
Look on the back side of tang, or, heck, the front side. There should be a makers mark, however faintly, in it. You can shine a flashlight across it at a low angle to help cast shadows if you can't see anything or even try a piece if rubbing paper and some charcoal. It would be old school but Holmes would approve.

Thanked: 3164I don't think the box goes with the razor - it belongs to an earlier razor than this one. I would think that the scales and tang covering are celluloid. If there was a makers mark - and sometimes there was not - it would be on the other side of the razor, you have shown the same side in each pic from what I can make out. Without a makers mark you can never be sure who made it, sadly.

Neil

Thanked: 0I don't think it's celluloid because I put a hot pin on it and it didn't melt (isn't that the test??). I'll closer for any markers. The only thing I could make out was (5) that had be engraved on it. Thank you so much for all the feedback.
