HIGH QUALITY STRAIGHT RAZOR SHAPING STROP SET EXCELLENT - eBay (item 270662151924 end time Aug-07-11 17:24:27 PDT)

    This seems nice.

Is the blade ok for shaving?
The seller says that is from ... i quote "The name is Hashir brand, heavy quality, brand new and ready to use.".
I dont want to hone to much, i dont have the stones yet.

    Hi and welcome to SRP.

Forget about that set, it's all crap. Not usable. If you want a inexpensive way into straights, check the classifeds here, plenty of great razors there at all times.

Welcome to SRP! You have come to the right place for information! Read all you can in the Wiki and stay away from the bay. Try the classifieds here for a shave-ready (very important) razor at a decent price. Or, check out whippeddog.com for great starter deals. ruprazor also can be a benefit to you. But, read and research otherwise you will be out some money and disappointed.

I got suckered into one of those $6 razors when I first got into shaving. I also have one of those tiny strops.

I would avoid buying that unless you want to strop something noncritical in the future.

My razor didn't look as good as that one, but that is by no means an endorsement of that one, either. The razor that I got was of questionable steel content even when I had honed off the bits of it that were out of geometry.

In the end, it was a waste of time. If you want to gamble on razors, gamble on 100 year-old razors where the pictures aren't that great, but the blade appears to be decent (not chipped, full depth, not frowning, etc). You can get those on ebay for $10 with a little patience, and though you may end up throwing some out, you'll likely also have a couple that are great shavers and were put away decades ago in good condition and stored in a dry place.

If you just want to buy one razor that will be a good shaver, and sharp, I'd buy one from someone who is known for selling such things with 100% certainty and a guarantee. If there's a free lunch, I haven't found it. I have (because I don't mind light restoration) found a few "reduced price" lunches, but none of them were without risk.

Many will be willing to ship to Romania, but it will cost a little more. You can always send a private message to the seller and ask. There are many great people here willing to help out a new guy

I dont mind if the blade is old or if it doesn't look that good.
But i want it sharp and tough. I dont care about color or things like that. I care only for the quality of the shave.
I am looking right now through the ads.

I found a list of not so good razor brands. How about a top ten of best razors brands?

What is a limited lifetime waranty?

I have not been around here long, but wasn't there just a post in another thread that you can get a lynn-honed and shave tested dovo for about $58? Do they ship to europe?

Those chinese razors might be as good once they've been gone over, but you could probably unload the dovo and get most of your money back if you had to.
