Thanked: 0Henckels Platinum 401, whats the verdict on these? And when were they made?
I've selected this one as my shaver. Any info on these? Anyone know when these were made? It looks brand new, but I know its at least 50 years old. No rust at all, hardly any wear, and it shaves great. Any information will be much appreciated!
Best regards,
C

You might try looking at the various Henckels in the Wiki for comparison and dating.
THE VERDICT:
I have two 13/16 carbon steel Henckels, a 401 and a 72 1/2. The Henckels 72 1/2 joins a 6/8 Thiers-Issard Le Grelot as the best two shaving razors in my collection. Henckels are fine razors.
EDIT: My 401 is newer and not a Platinum.Last edited by DLB; 08-16-2011 at 03:18 PM.

I have yet to encounter a Henckels that didn't perform. Every one of them I have had the pleasure to shave with has been of the highest caliber.

As long as you don't get hold of a Henckels that was over heated during a restoration or in a fire you will find that they are all good shavers. From what I know about other products, the platinum models are the top level of that product line. I expect that is the same with Henckels.

Henckels are great shavers, I have a 415 that I use regularly and a 401 that's in line for restoration. Your razor has the point slightly muted and a smile to the edge I'd bet the shaves are quite good. As a guess I would say made 1920 to 1940 but that's just a guess.

Thanked: 0I've seen dates from between 1910 and 1920, but its hard to believe because its so pristine. The whole collection had been put away for decades though, and most of them were like this.
