My first Spike shave
I have been shaving with strictly straight razors for almost a month now, I shaved with a spike point tonight and it was more dangerous than I thought.
I dropped my guard when swapping to my left hand and almost sliced my cheek to the bone. That spike point snuck in under the skin on me.
I mainly use round point razors so that caught me by surprise. Just a warning to new spike shavers, be careful!!!!!

Ouch! I hope you are ok.
My first shave with a straight was with a very dull 9/16 Red Imp 132 spike razor. I was left with a two-inch long vertical slice just in front of each ear. Both bled profusely. Fortunately, the cuts were so clean that they healed without scarring.
Be sure to put some ointment on your cut until it heals. In addition to using Neosporin in the morning and evening, I put Aloe Vera gel on the cut 3-4 times a day. It really did help.
Good Luck and Happy Shaving.

I think too many people minimize the differences in shaving with a spike vs round point. I've always found unless you are really aware of where that edge is at all times the spike can really bite you bad. Also not all spikes are created equal. Some actually flare out slightly and those are really razors with a mean disposition.
In the end it's just being careful and don't pivot that edge into your skin.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I agree with TBS. Ya need to be aware of what you are doing at all times when using a straight razor regardless of the style point it has. Hope you're all right. Live and learn. I bet you won't get careless like that again any time soon. I've had my share of cuts but nothing serious, knock on wood. I once tried to shave when I was very upset about something. I forgot what I was upset about but I do remember not to shave when I am in that state of mind.

Welcome to the club, I had a similar experience with my first shave with a spike. They also seem to love my ear lobes.
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

Thanked: 9I've still got some scarring from my first spike point shave!
It was all going pretty well, when suddenly, in trying to get closer to my ear, I cut INTO my ear. Didn't really bleed a lot, and I felt no pain, but the scar is there. I fear it will last me a long while.
I went back to my round point- I will return to the spike once I become a bit more proficient.

Was shaving early early in the morning, half asleep. Managed to just nick BOTH my earlobes! Imagine my wife's face when she came into the bathroom and saw me with "pink" shaving cream all over my face and two little globs of blood dripping down both sides of my neck. Certainly my worst shave with a straight - and judging by my wife's disposition - nearly my last

That is exactly where I cut myself on the left side. The cut was so clean a little pressure and it clotted quick. No harm no fowl still love the spike!
