I've purchased from both Steve and Neil and both are excellent sellers, highly recommended!

My custom strop from Neil is just superb.

Thanks for all the replies guys, they've all been very helpful.

In the end I went for this Gebruder Emde Kiebitz Straight Razor, Solingen . Just need to get myself a decent brush, soap, strop, paste, bowl and honing stone!

Again thanks for all your help... it's been a long time since i've been excited about having a shave, it's like being in my early teens again!

The strop should be next followed by the brush and soap/Cream then the paste. I face later so a bowl isn't needed. If you're on a budget look into the Vulfix brushes in pure badger. Here's a link: Progress Vulfix

If budget isn't a concern the sky's the limit and three are much better brushes that can be had. The same with everything else you need. We usually like to suggest/recommend the top of the like when someone asks what to get and forget that not everyone has the budget for the best available. Also, starting out of the gate, getting something that is good, not poor quality, will get you through learning your shaving technique. When first starting out you will not be able to work the 'best' to their full potential and may even damage them. A strop is a common item that gets sliced up by people just starting into the straight razor journey. Good luck and remember to have fun!

    Nice razor!

You won't need a honing stone initially but you should speak to Neil about strops as well he may be able to knock you up a cheap basic one to learn on.

As for brushes, soaps and so on let us know your budget and we'll be able to come up with some recommendations.
    Regards
    Nic

The razor came today, can't wait to shave with it. I will pick a strop up from Neil but was thinking of the following brush soap set just to get me going, any thoughts?

Any advice also on what pastes will be needed for the strop?

    Thanks again

For daily stropping, don't use any. Ask Neil about general treatment but I doubt you need to do anything other than rub the strop with your palm before use. Good luck.
