Thanked: 0Questions Re: Joseph Elliot Razors
Just picked up two Joseph Elliot razors at an antique show in upstate NY this weekend. I need some help dating them and will post pics this evening. Neither have a city or country mark on them. The first says "Best Silver Steel" on the back and "Joseph" on one line and "Elliot" beneath it on the shank. It is clad in black horn with streaks of blond.
The second says "Joseph Elliot" on one line and "Best Silver Steel" beneath it on the shank. The back has two scallops on either side. In one scallop is "American" and in the other is "Razor" each written in script. This razor has a more modern length tail but no jimps. It is clad in black horn.
Pics will follow. Has anyone ever seen a Joseph Elliot American Razor?
Thanks.Last edited by THumbert; 08-23-2011 at 08:32 PM.

Thanked: 1587From Uniclectica:
ELLIOT, JOSEPH
Sheffield
Trademark: C reversed and C, with cross between
1821-1854 ("More Old Razors" by Lummus. Antiques, May 1927 p.372-374)
JOSEPH ELLIOTT (ELIOT) & SONS
Hollis Croft, Sheffield
ca. 1795 to present
Also a good read, with small reference to Elliot on the bottom of page 371 or so, can be found here
Never heard of Elliot American but I would hazard a guess that it is simply marketing for export.
