    Default Wade & Butcher rescale?

I am thinking of buying this for $25.00 but I have been searching every wade & butcher on the internet and can not fine a single one with scales like this. I am thinking rescale? The seller is saying Tortiose scale, I am not even sure they are that, it looks more like plastic wood look. But I would like the experts opinion here.

Also, in general if you are buying old razors that have been rescaled, do you appraise them with only the value of the blade? Or do the "new" scales add any value?

Those scales are certainly of celluloid. Probably from a much newer German razor. The W@B blade has been honed up into the blade etch, soooo, not much there in my opinion. Lots of razors lose some value to some collectors if rescaled, but some gain value as well. It depends on the buyer/collector's preferences, as always!

    I rest my case.

As Sharptonn stated, those scales are made of celluloid and definitely not tortoise. I have that same set on a Wester Brothers De-Fi. It's likely that that blade has been re-pinned into those scales, but your photo is not sharp enough to examine the pivot pin closely. If you are buying the razor as a shaver the scales are secondary to the condition of the blade. If you are a collector, then the scales may be of more value than the blade. You have to decide on the overall value by what is more important to you.
