Thanked: 0Joseph Elliot: ID and dating help needed
Newbie here, so sorry if this is a no-brainer.
Picked up this razor in Finland in maybe 1995 to use for shaving an African drum head. I understand that Joseph Elliot was a Sheffield, UK, maker of quality blades. Could someone please give an educated guess as the quality, vintage and value ($US)? The only markings are what you can see in the photo -- what remains of "Joseph Elliot" and a "C". There are no markings visible on the back or along the spine.
Thanks!
James

Welcome to SRP.
We don't estimate here and don't discuss any value.
You have nice old blade.
Possibly, the razor was made 1833-1856.
In 1856, the company became Joseph Elliot & Sons.

Thanked: 485I've just bought a Joseph Elliot which has that same symbol. On the tang is says Joseph Elliot's best silver steel with that symbol. Would I be safe assuming a date range of 1833- 1856? I had information saying it was about 100 years old, but I suspected older myself, part of my reasoning was no country of origin stated.
