I would probably try to clean the blade up a bit, but you wouldn't even have to since the pitting doesn't seem too bad. So maybe a good polish, get it in some nice ready made scales (even NOS Dovo's would do, IMO, relatively cost effective and they look nice enough, considering the original scales on most Dubl Ducks anyway) and hone her up.

I don't see the point in getting the slope out either, waste of time and steel. Although it would be aesthetically more pleasing to get it even, I do agree on that, but just IMO not worth the effort.

If you're all set with your rotation though and really don't need another one, I'd suggest selling it on since they seem to be quite popular. Having never shaved with one, I can't judge for myself.

Your tone suggests you don't need another blade, don't really want to do too much restoring and aren't ecstatic about the razor itself, so if I had to give a firm piece of advice: sell it.

Based on the hone wear and especially the loss of the original scales I would forget that it used to be a collectible razor. Getting that behind me I would ignore the heel to point difference in width, put it in some replacement scales and hone it. I'd shave with it and if I liked the way it shaved I'd keep it and if I didn't I'd pass it on.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have some DD cracked ice scales lying around that you can have. They are satinedge scales not wonderedge, but all the metal pieces are there. They just need to be cleaned up. There yours if you like.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I think I'm gonna scale her up and take it around the block. I'll let you know how it works out!

Thanks jcsixx, PM sent. Everyone here is amazingly generous!

I'd put a set of scales on it, hone it up and see what you think of it. Yo might be surprised how well it shaves.

Fix it up and use it is what i would do. Breadknife it - why not? It has already been breadknifed to get the chip out, so you might as well take an even amount off to get the thickness at the bevel equal along its length. when they make razors they 'strike' the edge (get rid of the uselessly thin bit of metal at the bevel by putting the edge to a hard stone) so you would only be repeating the process. With a sloping line across the bevel you are going from thick at the heel to thin at the tip, so only the tip is as it was originally intended to be. It's not the end of the world if you don't get a good shaver out of it as you aren't using it at the moment. Try it - you might surprise yourself, or do a lot of work rescaling it and maybe thinking it looks a bit of dog because you didn't even it up. It's not the razor it once was, that's for sure, so no reason to beat yourself up over breadknifing it!

    Regards,
    Neil
