Default Gillette Aristocrat -- very, very nice !

An antique store in Multnomah Village / Portland, OR is shutting down. Not knowing what it was, I picked up a Gillette Aristocrat for $ 4 !!!! And I think they have another one in stock -- if they're open tomorrow, I may get it as well.

I tried it out with a Feather blade as soon as I got it home. The shave was beautiful -- one pass was enough. The razor is way more aggressive than a Weishi (that's not hard), and I think it's comparable to a Gillette Tech. But the balance is subtly different than the Tech, and the weight is substantial.

I think I'll stop looking for another DE -- that one shave was pretty convincing.

The Aristocrats seem to be tricky to identify. The photos show a handle that's knurled all the way up, a notched center bar, and "PACKAGE" spelled out. That combination isn't supposed to exist -- but here it is. The razor is from somewhere between 1946 and 1950, I think.

CPCohen, that is a great deal, indeed. The Aristocrat is a lovely razor. That looks like the 1948, 49. Enjoy it.
