Thanked: 0Custom Scales
Hello to all.
Like many I have been reading and learning from this forum for quite a while. Found this place after getting a "gift" shave from the wife while out in Vegas. Came home and started doing a little research on razors. Mentioned the gift shave to a couple of friends and come to find out a couple of them have a straight edge and enjoy it.
Jumping ahead: During a night of food and whiskey we all started talking about our 40th B-day's coming up this year and what we could do to celebrate. Las Vegas is most likely the destination and we were thinking about getting a run of straight edge razors made for the group.
Here is my question: I need advice on who or where we can have custom scales made. Most likely want scales made out of a metal, solid (not plated) sterling silver was the choice of most. Also would need to have them engraved with names and so on.
Not sure these would ever be used likely just a memento of birthdays.
Thank you in advance

Thanked: 1371Send a PM to shutterbug. The man is a genius when it comes to metal scales.

I agree. John 'Shutterbug' does beautiful work and he's a nice guy to boot.

Have others here had this kind of scales made or heard of having scales made out of silver before?

I had scales made by Shutterbug. Saying that I am very pleased with the results would be an understatement. Here is a link to a thread he posted while making the scales: http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...-master-7.html

In general silver is a specialty best done by a silversmith. I'm not familiar with the individual being recommended but silver work is very different than normal metal work.
