Kamisori
Where can I learn about traditional Japanese razors? I think I'm going to make three things from my bar stock, a traditional Sheffield type razor, a trad Japanese razor, and a camp knife. Any help learning about Japanese razors would be great! I don't even know what an omote and ura are! Thanks all!

I made one, sort of. It is similar anyhow, and it shaves pretty fair. It is quite ugly however. I was stoked, I loved that I was shaving with my own creation. I made it from an old file (Simonds) without annealing it. Last I do that though. Next time I will do a full anneal. I will post a pic later.

As far as I know there is no book or reference to kamisori Razors. Maybe somewhere in Japan in some large library you might find something but otherwise the best source is probably around here in the many discussions we have had on the subject over the years. Just do a search and read, read, read.

To reiterate what Nelson said, there are a ton of information packed threads here on SRP. Way more info than you need to get going.

I don't know if you own one or not but I do believe that they are two types of steel welded together. I've got three of them and you can see a distinctive line in the metals and different patinas. You may be able to make it in the same shape but thats a different story altogether. Good luck
