Thanked: 1195I realize that there are many people out there that are strictly collectors, with no aspirations to take up SR shaving. And that's fine, nothing wrong with that. Seeing as this is an heirloom razor, I say clean it up real nice (showroom condition) and display it with pride.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the responses. I will keep it to honour my grandad. He passed when I was a baby so I never knew him. Nan said he was so proud of his grandkids and I feel a strong connection with him. Thankyou all.

Thanked: 0Anyone got any makers names that are good but not too expensive for a collector just starting out?

Henckels are a good quality straight and it looks in pretty good condition. As it belonged to your Grandfather, it's priceless. It would certainly make a good starting point to a straight collection. The majority of straights in Australia are Bengalls with a smattering of Invicata's and a few others. The internet has really meant that you now have the ability to buy razors from all around the world so if you're looking at collecting, it's pretty easy these days.

No one has commented, but the scales are of celluloid (early plastic). The platinum was not the top-line Henckels, but they provide great shaves. The best part is it is the one and only razor from your Grand Dad. Cherish it and preserve it! Lots of us, if not most all of us would like to have such a fine item from our forefathers!
