has anyone used Kedake razors before? if so any good for a newbie?

Chances are high it's crap. Possibly made in Pakistan, India or China.

Sweeneychris, if I may add to my friend Blix's wise comments, get yourself a good razor to start with. Try a shave-ready ("pre-sharpened") razor from one of the vendors listed at SRP, or look in the Classifieds. In both cases, you will know what you're getting. Beware of these mystery razors.

it all depends what the stamp on the tang is? it probably isn't great, but there are many unknown brands out there who have been lost in the mists of time. If it's stamped, solingen, USA, france or somewhere in the uk (Sheffield) it may be ok. If it's an unknown new ebay special then yes it's probably a junker. Would be good to practice honing with later on possible so you don't mess up one oof your nice razors

I do.

I got one.
It is not a good knife for a beginner.
The knife is not ready use.
You must first grind.
The steel is very hard, so hard to hone.
The knife that I have is very heavy (5/8).
But if it is honed correctly the shave the very pleasant

got 1 for a honing today,.. took me a whiiiiile to get there , at the end I did the majority on DMT plates and finished with 8 and 12 k Naniwa

Havent shaved with it, It shaved hand effortlessly and passed the HHT, I might try to shave today. The problem was reaching the sides of the edge, I tried the rolling circle but ended up just looking how the hone grabs and adjusting the movement as I went over the hone.

I use this forum a lot for research but hardly ever have the expertise to answer a question so I'm glad to finally be able to chip in. I too have a kedake blade, I was bought it as an entry level blade by my girlfriend a few years ago. Kedake blades are not shave ready and I had to hone mine on my dads whetstone (grit unknown- probably between 3-8K) I got a 'ok' shave out of it for about a month but then it got very rough without the hone to temper the blade. In the end I had to stop using it.

I have just bought a 10k Naniwa Chosera for sharpening knifes, woodworking tools and razors (also swords according to the box) It hones like a dream after breaking the stone in and breaking up the swarf. Unfortunately my first shaves with the Kedake blade have been really disappointing. the blade is grabby despite passing HHT.

Kedake are cheap, but the cost of getting them up to standard (if that is at all possible) is high. To be honest I cant see the point of them apart from to part newbies with hard earned cash for something that will give you a "6h after shaving" feel cut.

I'm shopping for a decent blade at the moment, If someone knows better I'd love to be proven wrong
