I have recently acquired this razor thinking that it was fake. When it arrived I was not that sure. 7/8 nearly wedge realy long blade is made of what appears to be damascus steel. Simple no washers brass pin in scales out of one piece natural antler.
The lade is marked F E Edwards Blacksmith Jacksonville Alabama with two hearts on sides of the stamp.

All that I've found on F.E. Edwards is that he was/is a knife maker and that he started a cutlery company in the 80's. He also made damascus steel for other knife makers. I know it's not much but I hope it helps.BTW, beautiful looking razor.

It is certainly a great find. I've seen examples of some of his knives and they are absolutely stunning. And the company he helped found is the Parker-Edwards Cutlery Co.

I din't know there was a connection with Case so I looked it up. Sure enough, Jim Parker, the other founder of Parker-Edwards, owned Case until 1990.

I don't know anything about the maker in particular but I know that "Damascus" steel from our time period is not actually Damascus steel. Rather it is just a patterning made into the ingot when it is formed, usually by flux welding as the steel is folded. If done improperly it can make the steel brittle. The true Damascusing process has been lost to history and is thought to not so much as be a method but actually more of a specific type of ore from India. I do know one thing, if you ever see a double barreled shotgun from the early 1900's with "Damascusing" on the barrel or labeled "Damascus" do NOT buy that gun for shooting. They were a very sketchy method of barrel making by wrapping hot steel around a rod and letting it cool.
