Thiers Issard Scales
Howdy all,
I've seen some websites claiming that T.I does tortoise shell scales. I haven't been able to find a picture of said scales though.
Would anyone by any chance have a picture of these scales? Or even a razor with them on?
Looking forward to hearing from you guys!Shaving_story on Instagram

Thanked: 13245I doubt if it is anything other than "Faux" Tortoise shell

Many ads seem to leave that word Faux/Imitation out until you get to the small print
edit: I am talking new production, there is no telling what might be on a Vintage ThiersLast edited by gssixgun; 09-30-2011 at 11:57 PM.

No, that's plastic. I've never seen even vintage thiers-issard with tortoise. In fact real tortoise scales are very hard to come by. I really like them, so I've got some, but it's not easy.
They're probably most abundant on heljestrands mk31, mk32, and mk33.

What Glen said ... I know they made some ivory for a special order 7 day set. That was within the Euro-zone as exporting ivory is tricky. I don't think any jurisdiction allows the production of tortoiseshell anymore. Has to be provable that it is vintage. Matter of fact, I just read an article saying that pro musicians ... Nashville cats .... are freaking out because customs agents are seizing guitars and demanding proof that the Brazilian rosewood is pre-ban.

TI make a nice set of faux tortoise shell scales but I've never seen a TI with genuine ones. I've probably had a thousand or so straights pass through my hands in the last couple of years and I think I've had two that had what I thought were genuine tortoise shell scales.

I've got one and it is the only one I've ever seen. A Case Brothers Springville, NY circa 1905 or so. The scales aren't as dark in life as in the photos. Translucent in part as you can see on the one side where you can see the wedge. Their smile and the world smiles with you model.
