    Default Parker SRW?

After shaving my beard off for the first time in 5 years 2 days ago, I started thinking about trying out a straight razor... Then I saw how expensive they are to get all the equipment. I just ordered a Parker SRW with 120 blades from Amazon for $25. It has good reviews, but I was wondering what real enthusiasts think of them. Are they passable for a beginner not wanting to spend too much money? I will probably end up asking for a proper straight razor for Christmas, but wanted something to hold me off until then.

It will help getting some of the basics down, but it's not the same as shaving with a real straight. It's quite a bit less forgiving, so be careful and use a really really light touch. I had a few shaves with an SRW before I got my first real one, worked for me.

I am excited to try it for the first time. I should be getting it in on Friday... I will probably do a nighttime shave so that I can clean all my wounds before work on Saturday morning.

A styptic pencil is your friend! Just start with doing your cheeks to get the feel for it. It's easy to get razor burn if you overdo it, using a light touch can't be said enough. Don't try doing long strokes, keep em short.
