Thanked: 0Well, as I said it's a work in progress. Still at 400 grit sandpaper. I know it will never win any beauty contest but I hope to have a decent user from this and do get satisfaction from knowing that I have something rescued.

I have plenty of plain Jane razors as well as some that are not the best looking. As long as the honing is done properly and complete they shave as well as the nicer looking ones I have. Get 'er to where you are comfortable with the looks, get it honed up and put it back in service. Good luck!

Thanked: 1936I personally find most of the beauty of a blade in the steel and heat treatment...or lack there of. I recently honed up a group of 5 razors for a gentleman and he was so excited about his pretty ones (two of them were very nice looking), but he had already discredited the "other one". Long story short is that the "other one" was of the best steel and could actually handle a kiss from a 30K hone, which is less than 5% of the razors I see. This handmade razor took a very nice edge and would last a lifetime for most & it's plain Jane...just like me.
