Military Straight Razor
I saw a straight razor on E-bay advertised to be military from WW1. It had an odd grind. Looked flat on one side and full hollow on the other.
Can anyone tell me about the grind? Was it meant to be used from one side only?
How would you hone a blade of that shape?
I'm retired Navy so it caught my attention.

It is a microtome, it is for cutting tissue samples in a medical lab. To hone it, hone the hollow side.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

It's not a shaving implement, it's for preparing microscope slides... that's a sectioning knife, used to cut thin slices from a microtome sample.

It sounds like microtome to me.
They were used to cut very thin slices of samples for viewing under microscopes.
The WIKI has more info and there have been many posts regarding this type of instrument.
Cheers,
GeoffHang on and enjoy the ride...

What you are describing is a microtome . It's used for cutting tissue samples to put on microscope slides , and it's not a straight razor . I bought one by mistake on ebay , once . You really can't believe much of what ebay sellers tell you . It seems to me that most of them don't know anything about razors , so they just make up some crap .
Greetings , from Dundalk , Maryland . The place where normal people , fear to go .
