Thanked: 22Tracking Down Razor Ages
I know this has been discussed before, but here's my little story anyway.
I'm still a relatively new straight razor shaver, and as such I only own 2 razors. I've been reading about dating razors and got curious about the ones I own, so I did a bit of Googling last night.
The first one is a Grah & Plumacher razor. No indications that its a "Black Diamond" or a "Gotta". The tang simply says Grah & Plumacher Wald-Solingen. After a bit of reading I was able to determine that Grah & Plumacher made razors in Solingen in 1922 and 1925. There were also razors made by them in 1983, but not in Germany. Is it reasonable to assume that my blade is early to mid 1920's then? There seems to be very little information on the company.
The second razor is stamped "Made in Germany for Deckelman Bros" on one side of the tang and the other side is stamped "QUEEN". Again after a bit of research I found that Deckelman Bros. set up a barber supply shop in Oakland in 1921 and initially had their razors made in Germany. Same question here. Is it reasonable to assume I have a 1920's vintage blade?
I'm finding out that researching this information can be a lot of fun and I get quite a kick out of thinking that I'm using a razor that's almost 90 years old.
If anyone out there has any information on either of these models or companies, I'd love to hear from you.
