Default New Stubby acquisitions thanks to RAD.

Alright.. these are my newest additions to my collection! I have been wanting some stubbies.. The first one is I believe a George Johnson 6/8 and the other is a J. Elliot spanish point 6/8. what do yall think? SHould i restore them or keep them how they are.. I was thinking of maybe getting one of the guys here to reproduce the scales on the GJ with like material and an "1834" etching one of the first owners did..

    Hello,
Since you are asking for opinions, here's mine. Please do not butcher old, and in some people's eyes, historical razors. You have acquired a very nice example of a previous ages craftsmanship and daily history. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the scales that would impede use, and I personally feel that tarnish and a bit of pitting should be lived with. A little light cleanup, a bit of neatsfoot oil, or even a stabilization of the crack in the scales and this razor can be used and still maintain the character that, let's face it, took perhaps 200 years to amass.
    regards,

    Default STOP!!

Well, at least, delay. The Johnson, in particular, is in original condition. Hone it, if you like, the 1834 owner would have done so, but don't do anything you can't take back. Think about it at least a year before you attempt any "improvements".

I love the blade on that joseph elliot.. is there any model markings or anything else like that on it? I'd REALLY like to find one, even if it may be a mission impossible kind of thing.. that is one of the most beautiful looking blades i've ever seen...
