Ebay Satin Wedge
So I saw this a few days back, and with no bids and a low price, I'd figure I'd give it a shot.
I've been hearing everyone praising the DD's so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to own one. I was also looking for a wedge, so this was right up my alley.
Somebody tried to snipe it but I guess I was faster then them.
Ended up winning it for 40 bucks. Looks in fairly good condition, it does have some hone wear as I can see from the pics but overall not too shabby. I don't mind restoring it a bit if I have to.
Just curious to see if you guys think this is a good deal or not. Either way I'm happy I'm the owner of a DD

I'd say that's a fair price. You got the yellow scales instead of the clear ones, hone wear is pretty significant, and there is the pitting on the blade as well. You can tell it rusted pretty good outside the scales and was then cleaned up.
As for the shave, I have to say the DD quarter hollows (like that one) are quite different from the full hollows. I guess it's personal preference, but I have a Satin Wedge and don't care for the shave. I just don't like the combination of a heavy grind and hard steel. A fine shaver, just not what I like. YMMV.

Thanks for your reply.
Well I'm glad I got at least a fair deal out of it
I've been shaving with half hollows so far, and while they shave pretty good, I have a pretty thick beard and figure I'd try a heavier grind. We'll see how she shaves.

Thanked: 114I don't have this exact razor, but I own a DD full wedge (or near full wedge) and it's one of my best shavers. Looks purdy too! Have fun with your new toy. :-)

It looks like a pretty decent razor to me. The only thing that would concern me is that sometimes pitting close to the edge can be rather deep. I have blades where it is so deep that it gets revealed in the edge itself as I hone. You cannot "hone through it" because there is more to be revealed. I have found that the small gaps in the edge caused by revealed pitting in the edge don't cause a shaving problem at all.

Hopefully it'll be alright.
I'm new to honing myself so if it's not shave ready I'll probably end up sending it out to be professionally honed, I really want to let this razor's talents shine through.

In the last pic you'll have to check if that's a crack there or just a scratch. Yes it's been cleaned up and has pitting but can be a good razor again. You'll know for sure once you get it and try honing it.
It's got the opaque scales cause it's a Bresduck. The later ones used the clear scales. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
