    Default I.D - W.Hague, original box?

    Hi,

I just purchased this notch point razor today from an antique shop and was wondering if anyone had any information about this razor, also it came with a box but the print on the box does not match the tang so I do not know if it goes with the razor?

Another question is the scales appear to be Bakelite (to my semi untrained eye) and was also hoping someone could tell me the reasons for the little square notches in the scales at the monkey tail end.

Can anyone help me out with some information?

    Thanks.

Ps, there is nothing printed on the reverse of the tang, just ‘W.Hague’ on the front.

Cool razor! No idea about the holes in the scales... definitely man-made... do the ends of the scale look home-reshaped? It's possible one of the scales cracked at the pin and someone shortened them, but a little bit of the pin hole was left... that's my only guess.

Well spotted, I think you are correct and being Bakelite they could have easily cracked.

However after reexamining them and taking in to account what you have said I doubt whether the scales are original and whoever reshaped them may have shorten longer scales to match the length of the razor and the scales seem a tad long for the blade even still.

If they are not original I might as well replace them at some stage.

That has probably solved the scale mystery and now I just have to find out the information on the blade.

I basically purchased this razor as I liked the notch point and the overall condition of the blade and of course to add to my minimal collection.

    Thanks.
