    Default Strange razors!!!

    Strange razors!!!

I went to York Antique & Collectable Market on Saturday. A guy had a box of about 30 razors in varying condition, the first one I opened was a strange shape ( As the picture) but with no hone wear. I thought this was a style I hadn’t seen before! There were some with real dyer home made scales on
( would like to have shown them but he wanted £2.00 each) as I got through them I found a couple with really bad hone wear, A hollow ground turned into a wedge! Then there was a “Gong” razor shaped like the picture and I realised that this was done by sharpening! The guy said the razors were from a barber?? But I cant see how you could sharpen a razor to this shape without any hone wear. Has anyone any ideas??
The picture has been edited to look like the razors the guy was selling.

My take on this is that the razor had significant damage to the blade and was re-ground into that shape. I have handled hundreds of vintage razors over the years with various types of home workshop repairs. Nothing would surprise me. Without a hands-on inspection of the razor, that's my opinion from across the pond. However, others may have come across something like this before. You can never tell with all the variations out there.

I agree with Jim's assumption on this one. As for the Husgen.. It's a keeper.

I think the edge has been re-ground as well...

Is a Husgen & Ern an ok brand then?

I'm using one, marked "Solingen Extra" in a gold wash, picked it up from ebay a couple of years ago.
