Default Razor for first resto attempt...

Just picked up this little number on Ebay for 11 bucks, I want to try my hand at restoring it, I figure for 11 bucks even if It shaves like crap (or never shaves at all) it's not a huge deal.

Let me know what ya all think

$11 for a training tool is a good buy.

Looks like a fair candidate and it is a Solingen made razor so it should shave fine

Thanks, I have access to polishing wheels etc so I am going to attempt resto when I get it. If I can get it looking nice I'll send it off to Lynn to sharpen/hone since I don't have stones (Yet, I figure i can afford them around march ) Just want to see how this goes, unpin it, clean the scales, polish the scales, and then polish the razor and see how it shaves

Keep the steel cool and wear face and body protection
    with polishing wheels.

I tend to worry an old razor like that with some
1k 3M wet dry paper and hand sand it to the point
that I can see what I need to do.

My last sanding with 2k 3M paper is sometimes
done with a spray of WD-40 instead of water.

I do not restore -- I just rescue my razors...

Seems like a nice basis for a first rest attempt: good luck and keep us posted with pics please?

    Kind regards, Jazor.

It looks like a good enough razor to be worth all that work when you get it done. There is no bigger turnoff than spending endless hours and a professional honing fee (which can't ever be cheap), and ending up with an effective shaver you could have bought for $20 instead of $11.
