Help on choosing second razor!
Hello everyone! Enjoying every shave with a Dovo envogue No.105 stainless steel. This is my only straight at this time (on my 6 shave). I was looking for another straight to compare, rotate and learn (later on) honing with. After much reading on why is good to have a second straight, I'm sold on it.
My question to all the old hats here, is, if the Feather disposable straight would make a good second SR? This is the on I had in mind http://www.amazon.com/Artist-Handle-...ductPromotions
I'm thinking, that if it is close to the same weight as a steel SR it would give me a bench mark for my stropping technique, honing and overall feel what a sharp SR should feel like at all times. Want to know what you guys think. Thanks in advance Double O

Thanked: 485You DO know you're going to get more than two, don't you?
I was most adament when I started that I was 'minimalistic', but, well, I know now I'm not...Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

I'm not sure how close in weight a Feather AC is to a steel straight. It is certainly true that the Feather
blades would set a high benchmark for you to gauge your honing by. I'm thinking that that benchmark
would be almost unattainable. At $250.00, you can get some pretty fine straights out there.

If you are already into straights, why buy a substitute? (disposable blades? yech!
:P) If you already have a round point get a square point and master it, or vice versa. It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanks to everybody! More minds think better than one.
I ended up with a Dovo micarta stainless blade (same steel, length, grind and shape) from SRD with honing for life! I think it will give me the intended results.
With so many variables, stropping, shaving technics(holding blade, angle of blade, pressure or lack of...), lather, honing and anything else you could think of, it is better to know that it is not the sharpness of the blade that is making you pull and tear your face. By keeping always one blade professionally sharp you can compare all the other things as you learn. Once I get confidence with stropping, then shaving, then honing I would give Lynn a brake with the honing. With time (two, three years realistically), I intend to try other blades and maybe one day have a 7 day rotation of favorite blades.
Much appreciated for all the help, Double O
