thanks again for all the help, it is definately going to be shipped off to get honed, just to be sure. It was a gift, otherwise I would have purchased one from a honemeister! Still happy though, just gonna get it touched up.

Before you send it out to be honed I would give it a test shave. If it doesn't give you a nice shave, then send it out. This way you will have something to compare (ie: new razor vs. honed and shave ready). I bought a new dovo from Art of Shaving back in July and it is still one of my sharpest razors. Sometimes you just get lucky. I wish you many close shaves.

Okay, went ahead and did it. I have to say I really enjoyed that. Can't tell you how long it took, lost track of time, but it must have been at least half an hour. Honestly, I wanted to whip up more lather and keep on shaving! I do not think the razor is as sharp as it should be definitely some tugging going on, doesn't cut as well as my DE's, but damn my cheeks are smooth! Chin isn't bad, only one slight nick, but I'm definitely going to have to work on the neck. Everything seems to grow away from the adams apple, and haven't figured out how to curve this razor so I can shave my neck sideways.... but I'm hooked. I think I'm going to do some strop work and see what I can do with it, if I'm going to send it out for honing might as well screw it up good first! I'll probably pick up a deal on a vintage blade that I know is honed and ready to go, so I won't have to go without if I need to send this one in. Thanks again for all the input everyone, I consider it a success, I'll work on my techniques and this edge and start progressing!

hey Jerry, don't know where Penna is, and I appreciate your offer, very cool, but I do not expect anyone to provide any labor without proper compensation..
    Thanks!
