    Question Wolff Lane & Co.

I have done some research and can not find out much about this razor other than it must be rare. From what I did find Wolff Lane & Co. was a hardware company in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania that imported all their cutlery including straight razors from the mid 1800's to 1909. I have found that the only other razors with this company name were made by Joseph Elliot so this may be one of them? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It's nice when you can find some history for a razor . Since the razor isn't stamped with it's country of origin , and you say they imported all the razors they sold , I would have to believe the razor to be pre-1890 . I would think the razor may date to the 1880's , because of the double shoulder grind . I'm not sure , so someone correct me if I'm wrong , but I think the double shoulder was started circa 1880 .
Greetings , from Dundalk , Maryland . The place where normal people , fear to go .

I refer to them as Hardware Brands ... There are many of them out there, and they came from quite a few sources...

From the "Looks" of the razor I would guess that your info is correct and that is a J. Elliot made razor at least the lines look right to my eye

No information about the company, but since your razor lacks a country of origin stamp, it likely was made prior to the 1895 Tariff act. It shows an unevenly honed bevel, which will need to be fixed by a competent honer. Just my .02 cents worth.

Thanks for the info, as I'm pretty sure I have seen a thread where you had one of these but with the J. Elliot stamp. I'm pretty sure it was made by them since I have not seen anymore of these razors stamped otherwise. I think it will look good after being properly restored, and hopefully takes a nice edge.
