R.A. Herder – 6/8 – Full Hollow – Solingen
Does anybody know anything about this razor?
I bought it a few days ago and it arrived today.
The only thing I know is that it is a Solingen. But I know nothing regarding the smith (Herder) and the date of manufacture.
Does anybody here own a similar razor? Would you consider it a good shaver?
It is 6/8 full hollow. Engraved in the blade you can see:
“RICH.ABR. HERDER” a “star” and number “85”.
There is a lot of work to do in order to fix it. The edge must be completely renewed. However, it is challenging and I will try to correct it.
Every opinion is welcome.

Thanked: 7Here's a bit of info from Maximilian's site:
'Richard Abr. Herder is an old line Solingen firm that has been around since 1727. They made quite a few bayonets, daggers and knives during WWI and WWII and are originally known as a manufacturer of tools and cutlery.'
What I know for sure is that they've manufactured a lot of SS daggers during WWII (came to me as a shock, since Abr. in the name stands for Abraham, and that wasn't one of the most popular surnames in Germany at the time) and a truckload of those daggers are copied right now and sold as originals. Your razor is genuine, that's for sure. And I believe you got if off japanippon on Ebay for a fair price. Congratulations and may it give you a long and pleasant series of shaves!

Thanked: 7My bad on the seller part. I saw one exactly like yours that went away from him and I assumed it was the same.
Enjoy it!
PS. Tell me how does it shave, I'm eyeing a 7 day set form Abr Herder.
