Hart Steel a Good Buy?

After shaving on a cheap/old Dovo for a couple months now I'm looking to step up my game and get a 2nd razor. Given the number of razors on the market, I'm having a hard time coming up with my next purchase. Anyone have any thoughts on a Hart Steel? If so, any particular model better than the others?

Hart Steel make nice razors. When they'e dialed in they shave like champs.

I'd also suggest checking the Revisor site, and looking in their vintage catalogue. Theyyyyyyy are nice razors too.

I've got a Hart 6/8 square point that I love. It's a great shaver. It's also pretty "friendly" as far as square points go. The cutting edge has a little bit of a smile ground into it, which helps to keep the point from catching you by surprise. I haven't tried the round tip model. I'm sure it's just as good. If you have big hands or a tough beard, then the longer tail and greater weight of a Hart razor might be more comfortable to handle. It is for me.
I just got a 7/8 model, arriving in the mail today. Can't wait to try it!

If you've got the money for it, get one. They are very nice. Although they're pretty plain looking in the pictures (no fancy gold wash) they have a real elegance about them in person. And you don't have to worry about gold wash that will wear off.

They are fantastic. I received a Hart 6/8 square w/ Rosewood scales as my first razor. Good stuff

Everyone who uses a Hart, sings it's praises I think. But on the off chance you didn't consider it, you might try out a few different old cheap blades of various sizes and grinds, in order to have a better idea of what you like in a razor. Personally, I do best with a 5/8 near wedge spike point. Others won't own one, because they might cut their ear off. Some guys LOVE those big old meat cleaver Sheffields. Some guys (me) think of those things like a OCC motorcycle. Big, shiny, and useless. Point is, before spending the dough on a Hart, you might wanna try out some cheapies in different styles, so that you know when you do spend the real money, it'll be on something you know will fit your preferences.

+1 on the Revisor. They and Hart are my favorite current producers. A revisor will cost you less, usually, than a Hart, but I've had a few Revisors that did not come shave ready, and needed a lot of honing. So the cost may come out about the same if you get one of the 6/8 or larger Revisors. Something to keep in mind.

You entitled your thread "...a good buy" A good buy is a vintage razor you got for forty bucks or a basic Dovo or TI or maybe a custom razor that sold for $1500 you got on eboy for $400. Once you get into higher priced razors the term good buy doesn't fit. Now if you mean is it a good razor that's a different story.
