I'd say most of the money is the scales here, ivory always comes with a premium price.

If you get it, get it for the scales. Mammoth ivory is pretty rare, I take it.
As far as the shave, it's an extra hollow 5/8 carbon blade, which I assume is the same as the Prima Klang. Also a very fine razor.

I always assumed it was basically a Prima Klang with rare scales. But I own neither, so I can't say for sure.
I have Dovo stainless blades, though. Excellent shavers.

I love my black star. If this razor shaves at least half as good as the black star I will be ecstatic and consider it money well spent. I am still new to the straight razor world, but what little I have seen and experienced makes me know that I will not go back to the multiblade jungle that I have come from. This razor seems to "call to me" if u will the same way that my Ducati's do. I know this wont be a good thing or a cheap thing... But before I drop that kind of cash I just wanted peoples input. Thank u to all those who give advise and to all those who have influenced my journey in to a time that was more self indulgent and self reliant.

You're right, ivory scales have a premium price. But the price of mammoth ivory is less than elephant. According the law you can't sell elephant ivory. But mammoth ivory you can buy in many places in the Europe and the price isn't high.

IMO, for that kinda money you can do MUCH better than that Dovo, you can get a awesome custom or many other awesome choices.

I have one and my advice is don't buy it, it's not worth it and I'll tell you why.

First, I got mine used so I only paid around $120 for it and in my opinion it's worth that. The scales are very nice but the finishing on them should be better and the matching of the scales is not the best. A big thing is the scales are heavy, very heavy and the razor is very unbalanced towards the scales making honing, stropping and shaving dicey. Then the blade has a brushed finish which is not what a razor of that price point should have. Also, that logo on it, that mamouth is awfully cartoonish to me and I wish they left off the gold plate. Lastly it's a 5/8s. At the price you mentioned you could get a very nice custom from Williams for instance which beats that Dovo 10 times around. Of course all this is my opinion. Someone else might think it's the greatest piece in the world.

Other than that it is a great shaver-Swedish,carbon steel.

Thank you to the S.R.P. community, I am glad that I consulted and will continue to consult the S.R.P. community. I am very intrigued by the idea of owning a razor with ivory scales.I don't exactly know why, All I do know is that I want one with a inconceivably devoted passion that seems to tear at the very edges on my sanity. My life sounds kinda dull but I assure it is anything but (or at least I hope). Any suggestions or pointers in a direction that can lead to a end to my craving would be more then appreciated.

BEWARE. I was the same way before I found a nice razor with perfect ivory scales, however in my case, the desire to own more ivory scaled razors just intensified, it is a beautiful material, both in looks and the feel in your hand. They often come up (misidentified) on various auction sites, IME most often on Swedish blades
