I purchased an eBay straight razor blade without scales. It was obviously a vintage blade because it had pits and stains. The blade is 1 3/4 x 9/16 inch. It is a wedge and "WEDGE" is the only marking on the tang. The steel seems to be of reasonably high quality. I cleaned it up, mounted it on temporary scales, and honed it (without tape). It gives an excellent shave. I planed to rescale it and sell it on eBay. However, the resulting shave is so good that I'm tempted to keep it.

Did many, many companies manufacture these razors? If so, is the quality generally good? Or am I just lucky?
