Thanked: 2Garrett Wade's Thiers Issard?
Several years ago I got a brand new straight razor from a woodworking supply vendor known as Garrett Wade Co. It is a "Thiers Issard" French made razor and I've been told by a couple of experts that it is a high quality unit.
I got it back in 1998 and it was a promotional that the company was running at the time. They had a very limited amount of these razors and only sold them for a short time.
I was wondering if any of you know anything about this particular model? It has a tortoise shell looking handle and a beautifully polished blade.
I've been told that Thiers Issard is a good quality razor. Any info you guys have would be greatly appreciated. jdX

I have a couple of T.I.'s and they are excellent shavers. Post a pic of your razor if you can.

TI is indeed a good razor, they will often do custom runs for someone who requests them as promotional items etc.
IIRC, there is even a "StraightRazorPlace" branded Theirs Issard that was made a few years ago in limited quantity...

Thanked: 2Garrett Wade 1998 promotional
This one that I have must have been specially made for Garrett Wade in 1998. Because the times that I've lurked here in the past I've never seen another one similar or even heard about one like this model. It has gold leaf work done on the blade and the handle truly looks much more classy than most of the units you see in magazines, ebay or antique shops.
It came with a paddle strop which I've found great for knives as well as for this razor.
I have a cousin who is a Barber by trade and he swears by a brand called Dubl Duck. He told me over the phone the other day that the Theirs Issard models used to be sold in Barber supply catalogs at one time.
I don't mean to digress but I'm wondering what to compare this Theirs Issard to compared to other high quality razors. I'm going to try to spend some time on this sight to learn more about it. They sure do give you a very close shave that's for sure.
Sorry I have no way of putting up pics at this time.
