A Feather is a lot more than just a "blade holder" , you should try one and you'd understand. While they are costly, it's a system that works, and shaves completely different for a DE-shavette.
I have the Feather AC SS and paid around $130 with a pack of blades included.

Thanked: 15You can also buy half pipe shaped hones for the DE blades, so if cost is a big factor for you, this is something more to consider.

While I am not familiar with the feather shave that I still can't believe that any shave that cost anywhere near 100 bucks. I started with a Weck holder with cost all of about five bucks, and a box of personna hair shaper blades, which also were about five bucks. Back then the holder was made from stainless steel and had a nice way to it quite similar to a straight razor and the personna blades gave a really nice shave. I have seen the holders on eBay I thought the 20 bucks that they were asking was a lot, apparently not. I know you can still get the blades so maybe you should keep an eye open for one of those if you're still interested in a shavette.

Ok,Ok.Let me clarify ,please.I was in no way downing a Shavette or the mighty Feather.I'm sure they hold a blade far superior than anything else out there.I was just giving a guy a recommendation on something he might be interested in to save a few bucks.Er,couple hundred bucks? After all this forum is where people ASK questions and people give their ADVICE/OPINIONS concerning that question.Like I have said in other posts.I got in to this for cost effectiveness and to be rid of disposable things.YES.I do still own a disposable razor myself, before someone cries foul on me.It was what i bought, for cheap,to see if i was going to like and/or be able to do all of this straight razor business. It rarely gets used anymore.I keep it for the times that i need to shave, but am yet still too ignorant to get my razor honed properly. But,also like i said earlier,IN MY OPINION,i cannot see buying a handle(if that is a more acceptable term vs. holder)for well over $100. If anyone else can see the value in that, more power to you.I'm sure I must be missing out.Sorry for the confusion.
