Thanked: 9I think so but don't depend on my word - I don't have it. Just heard good words about it... Do a search, something's gotta show up
I think Iwan had this one as a starter and took his Trumper shaving experience / lesson with it
Cheers
Ivo

Yes I bought a Dovo Bismarck as my first razor. Although I haven't shaved with anything else yet I'd still say I really like the Bismarck and am very happy with it. I bought a spike point, and I gashed myself a few times with it in the early days. Some people say get a round point first, but I figured I'd probably have to learn to use a spike at some time anyway so why not jump in to the deep end. I'm pretty well used to it now, so I'm not really scared of trying other spikes - if I'd learned on a round point I might be apprehensive of spikes.
I think you'd be happy with a Bismarck, but the main thing with any first new razor is to get it honed by a pro. Tony sorted this out for me when I bought mine from him, most razors aren't truly shave ready when they come from the manufacturor so having them properly honed from day 1 is a big help when you're learning.

It's a nice little razor, a pretty good performer in my rotation. The slightly shorter blade is very nice for those hard to reach places but it still gives you enough coverage. Based on my experience, you won't go wrong if you get one.

Remember that Dovo makes several different razors with Bismarck on them. Most ften seen are the ones at Clasic Shaving with the red or black scales and fancy inlay work. Not as often seen are the bone handle models with round or square points and gold washed tang and spine similar to what I got for Iwan. They also have a much less expensive Bismarck with simple black scales.
All would be fine shavers though as it is mainly cosmetics that sets the different price points apart in Dovo razors.

And that bone-handled one I got from you definitely had plenty to go in the cosmetics department, Tony.

Its a good shaver. I bought a 5/8 Dovo Bismark Super round point as my first straight. I went over to Alan's place and he got it shave ready for me. Not a whole lot of heft to but still a very nice razor.
