Default Extra Long Tanged Razor, but not a DePew?

Hey guys. I mentioned this razor in the monkey tail thread in the auction forum. It just arrived yesterday and I'm quite happy with it. I've never seen a tang like it before, over twice the lenth of a normal tang, but not fashioned like a DePew. It's got two grooves for your fingers it seems, but it's rather uncomfortable to hold that way.

There are five pics in the folder. The first is a comparison between the Joseph Rodgers and Sons with the long tang and a modern Dovo with red bone scales.

The second pic is a closeup of the tang to show the grooves.

The rest of the pics are closeups of the razor and the last picture shows a canadian quarter dollar in the background. For guys considering buying a digital camera, mine has macro focus and can focus on an object that is about 2" away. The camera was pretty cheap at around $250 or so and is a 4megapixel Olympus. I know that close, non fuzzy pics are sought after by most of the guys here and that is the only reason I mention this.

So, all said and done, I'm pretty happy with my razor. Not bad for $25. It should be shave ready with a good honing and the edge seems to be in good condition. The piece needs to be cleaned, but it's found a safe spot in my collection.

    Thanks for looking,

Hm, I thought you outsniped me on this one but now I see there must have been two. The one I bid on was the same but with plain dark horn scales. It went for about the same price too - under 30, but I was trying to get it for 21. THe item description said its base value was $20.

I actually think this would be more comfortable to me than other razors - just split the fingers 2 and 2, as opposed to 3 and 1. Seems razor would be more stable. Very interested to hear how it works out for you.

    Cheers

I really like the look of those longer tangs. They look like they'd be much easier to hold on to and control, like Ivo said. Are you going to use it as a shaver?

How rare are these razors with the monkey tails, anyway? I haven't seen many of them at all.

I don't have a monkey-tail razor like the depew, but the feather razor has an extra-long tail that has enough room for 2-3 fingers, and it just gets in the way when you're shaving your neck.
